Endocrinology

Endocrinology is a specialty that deals with the hormones of the horse. To date, the two most recognized endocrine diseases are pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction, also known as Cushing’s disease, and equine metabolic syndrome related to a dysregulation of insulin metabolism. These two syndromes are often linked to laminitis.

Management tests include a clinical examination, blood tests (insulin, glucose, thyroid hormones, ACTH, etc.), foot X-rays, etc.
