After examining the horse clinically to exclude a neurological problem, additional tests may be performed including x-rays of the head, neck and back, fibroscopy with examination of the guttural pouches and temporohyoidal joint, myelography (injection of contrast medium around the spinal cord under general anesthesia with x-rays taken), cerebrospinal fluid puncture, etc.
