Neonatology

Some foals suffer from serious pathologies from their first days. Some are due to their immaturity (asphyxia, prematurity, inability to feed or stand up, immature organs…), others are of infectious origin (sepsis, diarrhea, liver infections of umbilical origin, septic arthritis…).

In the same way as an infant, these foals have a condition that can deteriorate very quickly, which is why we have to hospitalize them in intensive care in order to do very regular examinations, day and night, perfuse them at a precise rhythm, feed them with a tube if they are unable to suckle, and even by vein if their intestines are immature.

They stay in a heated pen next to their mother in adapted boxes.

We also have a very small fiberscope that allows us to examine even newborn foals.
